ISO 9001

Wrote procedures and flow charts for the IS Business Continuity Team of 12 people.  Documents were held in such a high regard that they were invariably put forward by Service Delivery for the ISO assessments to gain and retain their ISO9001 certification.

Business Cases

During 6 years managing a Business Continuity Team wrote numerous business cases to justify resources such as £700k of contractor costs per year, a £2million implementation of remote disk mirrored contingency hardware for a mainframe, transfer of an unused server 200 miles to another data centre and testing for contingency purposes.

Policies and Guidelines

Have written numerous policies and guidelines for an organisation of 1,000 IS staff.  Part of the team that wrote the information security policy and guidelines for a FTSE 100 company with over 14,000 staff.

Strategies

Wrote the 3 year strategy for a 400 strong Service Delivery organisation responsible for 3 data centres and supporting 600 applications and environments on 1,200 servers for 14,000 staff at over 50 locations.  Wrote business continuity strategies for rapidly changing Service Delivery and IS organisations.

Project Documents

Wrote business cases, project initiation documents, progress reports, risk and issue logs etc. for numerous projects up to £2million.

Document Review

Have read and reviewed literally thousands of policies, strategies, business cases, guidelines, procedures, plans, system specifications and similar documents during more than 30 years in audit, quality assurance, information services and risk management in local government, a gas utility and the health service. 

The lessons learnt from this experience, plus an inherent adaptability, enables clear and intelligible documents to be written in whatever format and structure an organisation chooses.

Wordsmith

Regularly sought out by other teams for advice on the wording of documents or even to write them for them.  Staff resources business case used as a model for other teams.  Have run training sessions for audit staff on report writing and document management in both local government and gas utilities.
